According to Wikipedia, Theriogenology is a specialty of veterinary medicine concerned with animal reproduction. This includes the physiology and pathology of male and female reproductive systems of animals and the clinical practice of Veterinary Obstetrics, Gynecology, Andrology and Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART).
In other words, Theriogenology simply relates to animal reproductive system. The plural form of the term is Theriogenologies. And who has specialties in this field is called ‘Theriogenologist.
Theriogenologists are veterinarians with advanced training in animal reproduction like semen analysis, evaluation and processing, breeding soundness, IVF, embryo transfer and obstetrics. In the United States, all theriogenologists are board-certified by the American College of Theriogenologists.
In Merriam-Webster, the term ‘Theriogenology’ means a branch of veterinary medicine concerned with veterinary obstetrics and with the diseases and physiology of animal reproductive systems.
Types of Reproduction In Animal :
Depending on the number of parents involved, there are different modes of reproduction. In animals, there are mainly two types of reproduction : Sexual Reproduction and Asexual Reproduction.
Sexual Reproduction in Animals :
The process by which male and female gametes fuse together to form a new individual is called sexual reproduction.
Asexual Reproduction in Animals :
Besides sexual reproduction, the other major type of reproduction seen in the animal kingdom is asexual reproduction. This type of reproduction is mostly observed in lower organisms and unicellular microbes.
Types Of Asexual Reproduction in Animal :
There are several types of Asexual Reproduction in animal. Of them are Binary Fission, Budding, Fragmentation, Regeneration and Parthenogenesis.
