The death toll from the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh is on the rise consistently as the country has recorded 9 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 110. Besides, the country has confirmed 434 new cases of the virus over the period, raising the cases to 3,382 in total. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) announced this information at a regular online health bulletin on the coronavirus situation in the country.
Bangladesh confirmed its first case of coronavirus infection on March 8 and the first death recorded on 18th of the month.
DGHS during the bulletin said that at least 2,974 samples were examined across the country over the period to determine new cases. Of these, 434 samples, the second highest rise in a single day so far since the first case, turned positive for the virus, down from the period earlier.
The health body also said that at least 87 patients now had recovered with 2 in the last 24 hours. Of the 9 new deaths, 5 are male and the rest female with 3 each in the age brackets of over 60, 50 and 40.

To contain the spread of the virus, officially known as Covid-19, the country has been under lockdown from March 26. The countrywide lockdown is expected to see end on 25th of this month. But there’s a wide speculation that the lockdown could see another extension up to the end of the month and beyond depending on the situation in the days to come.
The government has already declared the whole country as virus-prone with at least 50 districts in the country being under shutdown now.
