Chinese businessman Zhong Shanshan (66) is now the richest person in Asia with an estimated new worth of $95.1 billion as of January 10 this year, according to Latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
In reaching the top spot of billionaires, Zhong has toppled India’s Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, according to reports.
Not only that, he has also removed Jack Ma of Alibaba Group in becoming the top richest person in his home country as well.
As per Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Zhong has moved to the sixth position in the world of richest individuals with the amount of wealth above-mentioned.
Known as ‘Lone Wolf’, Zhong is the founder and chairman of Nongfu Spring Co, the largest beverage company in China. He also owns the Chinese pharma giant Beijing Wantai Co.
Notably, Zhong was very little known person outside of China even until last year. But the monumental rise in his wealth is attributed to listing of his two companies— Nongu Spring Co. & Beijing Wantai Co.
Both the companies saw huge jump in their shares prices since their market debut last year, reports Bloomberg.
According to The Bloomberg Index, Mukesh Ambani had an estimated net wealth of about $76.5 billion towards the end of last year, down from $90 billion earlier in the year.
Meanwhile, Alibaba Co-Founder Jack Ma lost around $11 billion since October last year, taking his net wealth down to $50.9 billion from $61.7 billion same time last year.
