It is said that exercise keeps a person sound and healthy. This saying is applicable to students as well. A new global study by World Health Organization finds that regular physical activity is crucial for sound health of students. It is also found that globally 4 out of 5 teenage students are physically inactive as almost all of them do not do physical activities and exercise on a regular basis.

The research is first of its kind in the World. It is carried out through a survey involving about 1.6 million students aged between 11 to 17 years from 146 countries over the period 2001-2015.

According to the findings of this new study by WHO, exercise and regular physical movement are keys to the good health of students. But worldwide 4 out of 5 teenagers are not getting enough physical activity and exercise. The survey report further said that almost all students surveyed failed to demonstrate even one hour of physical activity regularly.

The study also finds that children at the age of 2 are increasingly becoming glued to gadgets. This trend is developing an unhealthy obsession with the screen among teens. In addition, this habit is also pushing 90% of adolescents and teens to become inactive. So as per the scientists, it is the need of the time to get them detached from the screen.

Following these shocking findings regarding physical actions of students, the researchers suggest that teenage students should engage themselves in at least one-hour physical activity per day. They can do incidental movement related activities like walking, doing or engaging in household chores and formal exercises etc. Source : TOI
