Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Catches Coronavirus

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi (64) has caught the novel coronavirus, the minister on July 3 confirms through his official Twitter account. The minister has added in the tweet that he is still strong, energetic and self-quarantined at home.

Pakistan, one of the countries worst hit by the virus in South Asia, now has about 236k cases of the virus including at least 4,880 fatalities so far now, as per the worldometer.

To the latest, Pakistan’s Health Minister Dr. Zafar Mirza said on July 6 that he was tested positive for the novel coronavirus, becoming the latest senior minister in the country to be hit by the deadly virus. Dr. Mirza, the special assistant to the Prime Minister on health services, said that he was experiencing mild symptoms and was taking all precautions.

Earlier some high profile political figures including PML-N’s leader Shehbaz Sharif, National Assembly Speaker Faisal Edhi had tested positive for the virus, officially known as covid-19.

In the tweet, FM Qureshi writes, ‘this afternoon (July 3) I felt a slight fever and immediately quarantined myself at home. I have now tested positive for Covid 19. By the grace of Allah, I feel strong and energetic. I will continue to carry on my duties from home. Please keep me in your prayers.’ But he has not provided any information on when he was infected by the virus.

To note, FM Qureshi on July 1 met the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, according to the Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
