National University (NU) in Bangladesh issues circular for admission into MPhil, PhD programs for academic year 2021-22. Online application process gets underway from July 8 and continues till August 17, 2021.

MPhil & PhD Programs Subject Area : The subjects in which applicants will be able to get enrolled for MPhil or PhD Programs are the followings :

MPhil Program Subjects : Bangla, English, Arabic, Sanskrit, Islamic Studies, History, Islamic History & Culture (Arts Group); Sociology, Economics, Library & Information Science, Home Economics (Social Science Group); Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics (Natural Science Group); Zoology, Biology (Life & Earth Science Group); Accounting & Information Systems, Management Studies, Marketing, Finance & Banking, Tourism & Hospitality Management (Business Studies Group).

PhD Program Subjects : Bangla, English, Arabic, Pali, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Islamic Studies, History, Islamic History & Culture (Arts Group); Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Library & Information Science, Home Economics (Social Science Group); Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics (Natural Science Group); Zoology, Biology, Soil Science (Life & Earth Science Group); Accounting & Information Systems, Management Studies, Marketing, Finance & Banking (Business Studies Group).

Application Requirements : Aspirants need to demonstrate the following qualities to be eligible for application :

MPhil Programs :

  1. Graduation (honors) and Post-Graduation degree with minimum CGPA 2.50/First Class/Division in all academic examinations. Besides, they need to have minimum 50 percent marks or GPA 2.50 in both Graduation and Post-graduation. Or Having minimum 55 percent marks or CGPA 2.75 in both the exams for graduation (pass) course degree holders.

PhD Programs : Aspirants need to hold the followings among others :


1. Having MPhil or equivalent degree.
2. Individuals with NU on-campus MAS degree, advance MBA degree holders will also be eligible for application.

To note, candidates will be able to get enrolled only in the subjects which they did graduation (honors) and post-graduation.

Admission Process : Admission into MPhil and PhD Programs for the academic year 2021-22 will maintain the following timeline :

Application Period : July 7 to August 17, 2021 as mentioned earlier.

Application Fee : The fee is Tk.750 which can be deposited from July 11 to August 22, 2021. For details, see the circular provided at the end of this article.

Written Test Schedule (In-person/Online) : The test is scheduled to be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon over the period of August 26 to 29.

Publication of Written Test Result : September 2, 2021.

Viva Exam Date Through Zoom : September 5 to 9, 2021.

List of Selected Candidates : September 15, 2021.

Program Duration : MPhil programs will last two (2) years with one year course work while it is three (3) years for PhD Programs.
