Earlier this month, the country’s President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for Covid-19, following months of downplaying the virus.

Three other high voltage government officials have also previously tested positive in Brazil. Back in March, Mines and Energy Minister Bento Albuquerque, and Institutional Security Minister General Augusto Heleno tested positive, along with Bolsonaro’s communication secretary Fabio Wajngarten and another 15 members of the Brazilian delegation upon return from a trip to the United States for meetings between Brazilian President and its US counterpart.

According to Worldometer, Brazil now has at least 2.1 million coronavirus cases including over 79,533 deaths to date.
