Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) has recently organized an international webinar on ‘Tips and Techniques of Online Assessment. The webinar was graced by Prof. Dr Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah, Chairman, Northern University Bangladesh Trust as chief guest.
The university VC Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain and Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam led the session which was attended by some 100 faculty members.
Prof. Dr. Francesco Coronel, Business Administration, Hampton University, Virginia, USA and Prof. Dr. Sita Vanka, School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad, India held the attention of the event.
The main idea behind the webinar was understanding and analyzing test taking methods to enhance online assessment of students. During the session, Prof. Cornel talked about two types of assessment techniques—-Formative and Summative.
A formative assessment would provide teachers and students with timely feedback through mastery of course material and learning objectives. This could be done through discussions, blogs, chats, quizzes etc.
On the other hand, summative assessment results are used to assign students’ grades and make a comprehensive conclusion about the course and learning objectives. Summative could be done using a case study, simulation, animations, reflective journals, project portfolios and presentations.
