Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS, JU :

The Institute of Remote Sensing and GIS of Jahangirnagar University plays significant roles in filling up the capacity and knowledge gaps by providing skills development trainings, undertaking research projects/exercises and acting as knowledge sharing platforms. The institute aims to undertake research activities to better understand the complex nature of social-economic-ecological problems which are primarily stemmed from disaster and climate change impacts and provide solutions for addressing related challenges.

The IRS promotes interdisciplinary research using earth observation image data to understand the multi facets of the problems since the disaster impact pathways are generally non-linear and culminate cumulative impact conditions. Geo-spatial knowledge products could provide crucial information/results by analyzing multi-layered, complex nature of data and produce maps for the interdisciplinary team so that they can make informed decisions and draw out appropriate choices/inferences on the problems.
