JU Admission Circular 2021 : Application Begins June 1

Application process of first year honors admission for year 2020-2021 at Jahangirnagar University (JU) begins on June 1 and continue till June 15. That’s what has been decided at a meeting of the university central admission committee, held on April 29.


According to the decision, student admission process for the academic session will have two steps. Initially, aspiring students meeting certain set requirements will be allowed to make application for admission into their preferred subjects or departments.

Then of all the applicants, a certain number of students will get the chance to appear in the admission test based on specified criteria set by the authority. It should be noted further details on admission process will be made available in due time through circular by newspapers.

Application Process : As said earlier, JU first year student admission process for the year 2020-2021 will have two steps. Primarily, aspirants fulfilling certain set requirements will get the chance to apply for a fee of Tk. 55 over the period of June 1-15.

Out of all initial applications, about one lakh eight thousand (1,0,8,000) students will be selected for admission test under 10 units based on their HSC or its equivalent exam GPA.

All selected applicants will be required to apply again to take part in admission test by paying a specified amount of Taka as final application fee.

Final stage application process involving selected candidates will have two slots. First slot will last from June 24 to 29 and second one from July 1 to 6.

Earlier, JU authority decided not to go under any cluster or combined admission test methods. That means this year it will be holding admission tests independently or the way it has been following over the long back years.

Common Requirements (tentative) : Aspiring students need to demonstrate the following minimum requirements to be eligible for application :

  1. Passed SSC or its equivalent exam in 2017 or 2018.
  2. Overcome HSC or equivalent exam hurdles in 2019 or 2020.
  3. For English Medium students, min 5 subjects and 2 subjects pass in GCE ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level exams respectively. Besides, at least ‘B’ grade in 4 subjects and min ‘C’ grade in 3 subjects out of 7 subjects involving ‘O’ and ‘A’ level exams together.


GPA Requirements : As per the decision, aspirants need to fulfill the following academic requirements to be eligible for application :

For A-Unit (Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Science) : Minimum GPA 4.0 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For B-Unit (Faculty of Social Sciences) : Minimum GPA 3.5 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For C-Unit (Faculty of Arts & Humanities excluding Department of Drama & Dramatics and Dept. of Fine Art) : Minimum GPA 3.5 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For C1-Unit (Faculty of Arts & Humanities : Dept. of Fine Art and Department of Drama & Dramatics) : Minimum GPA 3.5 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For D-Unit (Faculty of Biological Sciences), E-Unit (Faculty of Business Studies) : Minimum GPA 4.0 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For E-Unit (Faculty of Business Studies), F-Unit (Faculty of Law) : Minimum GPA 3.75 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations for Humanities and Business Students. And for Science students, the GPA is min 4.0 in both the exams.

For F-Unit (Faculty of Law) : Minimum GPA 4.0 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For G-Unit (Institute of Business Administration, IBA-JU) : Minimum GPA 4.0 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For H-Unit (Institute of Information Technology) : Minimum GPA 4.0 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

For I-Unit (Bangabandhu Institute of Comparative Literature & Culture) : Minimum GPA 3.5 in both SSC and HSC or their equivalent examinations.

To note, first year honors admission test will be held under ten (10) units. Those fulfilling basic requirements will be able to apply for any unit towards admission into the university.

10 Units : Students get enrolled into first year honors study at Jahangirnagar University through admission tests usually held under 10 units. The ten units are :


A-Unit (Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Science), B-Unit (Faculty of Social Sciences), C-Unit (Faculty of Arts & Humanities excluding Department of Drama & Dramatics and Dept. of Fine Art), C1-Unit (Faculty of Arts & Humanities : Dept. of Fine Art and Department of Drama & Dramatics), D-Unit (Faculty of Biological Sciences), E-Unit (Faculty of Business Studies), F-Unit (Faculty of Law), G-Unit (Institute of Business Administration, IBA-JU), H-Unit (Institute of Information Technology) and I-Unit (Bangabandhu Institute of Comparative Literature & Culture).

Final Application Fee : The following is the final application fee structure :

  1. Tk. 600 (tentative) for A, B, C, D & E Units each.
  2. Tk. 400 (tentative) for C1, F, G, H & I-Units each.

To note, application fee can be deposited by either of the means—Rocket (Dutch Bangla Mobile Banking) and Bkash.

Number of Faculties :

JU has six faculties—-Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Business Studies and Faculty of Law.

Departments Under Faculties :

Departments Under Faculty of Arts & Humanities : There are nine departments under this faculty. The nine departments are Department of International Relations, Department of English, Department of History, Department of Philosophy, Department of Drama & Dramatics, Department of Archaeology, Department of Bangla, Department of Journalism & Media Studies and Department of Fine Art.

Departments under Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Science : There are seven departments under this faculty which are : Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, Dept. of Mathematics, Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Environmental Sciences, Dept. of Statistics, Dept. of Geological Sciences and Dept. of Chemistry.

Departments under Faculty of Social Sciences : There are six departments under this faculty which are Dept. of Economics, Dept. of Anthropology, Dept. of Urban & Regional Planning, Dept. of Geography & Environment, Dept. of Government & Politics and Dept. of Public Administration.

Departments under Faculty of Biological Sciences : There are seven departments under this faculty. The departments are Dept. of Botany, Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Dept. of Zoology, Dept. of Pharmacy, Dept. of Microbiology, Dept. of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering and Dept. of Public Health & Bioinformatics.

Departments under Faculty of Business Studies : There are four departments under this faculty which are Dept. of Finance & Banking, Dept. of Marketing, Dept. of Accounting & Information Systems and Dept. of Management Studies.

Departments under Law Faculty : There’s only one department under this faculty—Dept. of Law & Justice.
