Humza Haroon Yousaf (37) is set to become Scotland’s First Minister as he has won the Scottish National Party (SNP) leadership contest held on March 27, 2023.

The leader of the Scottish National Party is the head of the SNP. The incumbent is Humza Yousaf, who was announced as the winner of the 2023 Scottish National Party leadership election, succeeding Nicola Sturgeon as party leader and First Minister of Scotland.

According to media reports, Yousaf won 52% of the final votes cast, running on a platform dedicated to delivering Scottish independence, combating the cost-of-living crisis, rejoining the European Union, banning conversion practices, and transitioning to renewable energy, amongst other campaign promises.

The son of first-generation immigrants, his father, Muzaffar Yousaf, was born in Mian Channu, Pakistan, and emigrated to the city with his family in the 1960s, eventually working as an accountant. His paternal grandfather worked in the Singer sewing machine factory in Clydebank in the 1960s.Yousaf’s mother, Shaaista Bhutta, was born in Kenya to a family of South Asian descent.
