Hansen Summer Institute’s Leadership Program is a fully funded one applicable to both international and US undergraduate and master’s students aged 20-25. The purpose of the program is building leadership skills and cultural understanding among participants towards building a more peaceful future. Attendants in the program get first hands training on team-building, public speaking, negotiation, mediation and working together to settle global problems. Leadership training includes meeting with political and business leaders to learn real-world skills and how to implement these skills at home after the program.

Based in San Diego, California, the program is financed by a generous grant from the Fred J. Hansen Foundation. The period of the program is just 3 weeks.

Benefits of the Program :  There are lots of benefits for participants in the program. The advantages include international airfare, accommodation and all relevant costs. Upon selection, the only cost to be borne by participants will be the fees in obtaining a passport and spending money.

Eligibilities to Apply : For non-US students, the following requirements are needed to apply :
1. Upper-division undergraduate with 2 years of college/university or graduate student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development or related fields.
2. Students must be between the ages of 20-25 on July 1, 2020.

3. Must have proven leadership potential outside of the classroom in the community, nation or region.
4. Have an academic adviser verify in writing the candidate’s English proficiency. (A verification request is automatically sent to your referee with the recommendation request.)
5. Have a valid international passport with US visa if necessary by the time the program begins.
6. Preferences may be given to students who have never been to the United States before but all qualified students are encouraged to apply.

Eligibilities for U.S. students are the following :
1. Upper-division undergraduate with 2 years of college/university or graduate student with a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international economic development or related fields.
2. Students’ age is the same as non-US students.

Eligible Zones : Individuals from every corner of the globe are eligible to apply for the program.

Application Deadline: The last date to apply for international students is 15 January 2020 (PST Time 11 PM). And for US students, the time is 15 March 2020 (PST Time 11 PM).
