The novel coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 85k people in the USA as the country has recorded more than 1.4 million cases. According to Johns Hopkins University tally, 85,906 people now have died in the country from the virus. The number of cases in the country now has been at least 1,417,889.
New York is the hardest-hit state, with at least 337,055 confirmed cases and 26,988 deaths or around 139 deaths per 100,000 residents.
Meantime, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington has revised its prediction on the possible death toll in the country from the virus. The new model now forecasts that more than 137,000 Americans would die by early August from the pandemic.

This revision comes at a time when many states in the country are preparing to reopen the business and other daily activities. According to a statement, the institute director Dr. Christopher says that the revised toll is largely due to Americans moving around more. Researchers tracked that movement through anonymous cell phone data.
