Corona Outbreak : Virus Claims 45 Lives In a Day In Bangladesh, Cases Top 71k

The novel coronavirus has killed 45 people in a single day, the highest so far now in a day, in Bangladesh within the last 24 hours ending on June 9 afternoon. That raises the national death toll to 975, approaching the mark of 1k.  Besides, the country has recorded the highest single day infections of 3,171 over the period, taking total to 71,675. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the country said at the regular online bulletin on the coronavirus situation in the country on the day.

The country confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 8 and the first death 18th of the month. Since then the both fatalities and cases have been climbing non-stop in the country.

DGHS said at the bulletin 14,664 samples were examined at about 50 labs across the country over the period. Of those, 3,171 samples came positive for the virus, up from the earlier period at 2,735.

The bulletin also said that 777 more patients have recovered from the disease over the period, taking the number of the recovered in total to 15,336.

As part of attempts to curb the spread of the virus, the country had been under lockdown from March 26 to May 31st. The government extended the lockdowns 7th time in phases. Now the government is considering to introduce lockdowns again based on zone system like red, yellow and green zone given the number of infections in any particular area.

Internationally the covid-19 coronavirus has infected more than 7.1 million people including over 406,000 deaths. Of all the affected countries or territories, the USA is the worst hit with at least 1,961,185 infections including at least 111,007 fatalities.
