The number of coronavirus cases and related deaths continues to rise in Bangladesh as the country has recorded further 39 fatalities from the virus within the last 24 hours ending June 21 afternoon. Over the period, the country has added another 3,531 new cases, taking the total cases to 112,306. The death toll from the virus in the country now stands at 1,464 since the first case reported on March 8.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Bangladesh said during regular online health bulletin on the coronavirus situation in the country on the day. The country confirmed its first death of the virus on March 18.
DGHS said at the bulletin that 15,585 samples were examined at about 60 labs across the country during the period. Of those, 3,531 samples came positive for the virus, bringing the samples examined so far to 612,164. Further 1,084 patients have recovered over the period, taking the total recovered to 45,77.
Of the new deaths in the last 24 hours, 35 are male and the rest of course female. Of the fatalities, 16 are recorded in Dhaka Division, worst hit by the virus,11 in Chattagram, 4 each in Khulna and Barishal Division, 2 in eastern Rajshahi region and 1 each in Rangpur and Sylhet Division.
Internationally the covid-19 coronavirus has infected more than 8.7 million people including at least 464,000 deaths. Of all the affected countries or territories, the USA is the worst hit with at least 2,254,662 cases and at least 119,719deaths. The country recorded an additional 33,701 cases and 607 reported deaths on June 20 alone.
