What class can a child attend in at the age of 9? At best, class three. But surely you cannot believe yourself what Belgian boy Laurent Simons is set to achieve at this age. This child genius is finishing Bachelor’s degree this December! He is going to complete the degree not in history or psychology but in Electrical Engineering.

Laurent is doing his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE), Netherlands. This subject is normally tough to learn for students of average graduate age. But Laurent is so genius that even the university authority has allowed him to finish the program faster than other students.

About Laurent’s quality, Sjoerd Hulshof, education director of the university’s bachelor’s degree, said in a statement, ‘Laurent is the fastest student we have ever had here. Not only is he hyper intelligent but also a very sympathetic boy.’

Laurent is genius to what extent?

According to university’s Bachelor degree staff, he is simply extraordinary as well as sympathetic. Laurent’s grandparents first notified his parents, Lydia and Alexander Simons, that they had a gift from the God which they (Lydia and Alexander) thought as being exaggeration. But soon Laurent’s teachers echoed the same. As per Laurent’s mother Lydia, ‘They noticed something very special about Laurent.’

To try to find out the extent of Laurent’s merit, he was placed on a series of tests, says his father Alexander, adding by quoting his teacher that his son was like a sponge.

Then what’s the reason behind his being hyper intelligent?

Laurent’s family is full of doctors. So his parents have yet to discover any clues behind their child’s ability of learning so fast. But his mother Lydia has possibly provided one reason—Eating lots of fish! She just mentioned that she had taken a huge amount of fish during her pregnancy.

What’s the next plan on Laurent’s mind?

After graduation, Laurent will go for PhD in Electrical Engineering. At the same time, he will study medicine, says his father. And as per Laurent himself, ‘My favorite subject is electrical engineering. Yet I am going to study a bit of medicine.’

But before embarking on all of those, Laurent plans to go to Japan for a long vocation to replenish self. Source : CNN
