A team of scientists at the University of Maryland has created a kind of fabric which has the exclusive quality of cooling or warming up its wearers. In making the fabric, researchers have used specially engineered yarn strands coated with metal.

The study findings have been published in the journal Science. The fabric could be produced and washed just like other materials used in making clothing specially for sportsmen.

According to the findings, the new fabric is environmentally adaptive that means when weather condition is hot and moist, it can pass out heat.

On the other hand, when the environment remains cool and dried, it can hold extra temperature. To be clearer, in hot environment the fibers or yarns used in the fabric expand, reducing the gap between them and preventing heat from escaping. Source : Independent Online
